Graphite Kitchen with Dining Serving Area
Brigsley
This kitchen in Brigsley was designed around a household that cooks seriously and entertains at scale
The Häcker Top Soft Graphite cabinetry, Dekton worktops and Neff appliance specification give the main kitchen the capacity it needs, while a linked serving area in the dining room extends the design beyond the kitchen itself and brings proper function to a room with a dining table that seats twelve to fourteen people! It is a practical, well-resolved project built around how the house is actually used.

For their renovation the clients initially visited Howdens, got a plan and a price, but were not convinced the quote represented good value. The client then came to Samuel Neal through a referral from his brother, whose kitchen Sam had completed previously. He was renovating his home and had specific requirements: a kitchen with enough cooking capacity for a household that uses it heavily, and a separate serving and entertaining area in the dining room that would work naturally alongside a very large dining table. The two spaces needed to feel connected, with the serving area clearly part of the same design rather than an afterthought.
-
One of the more considered layout decisions in the kitchen is the position of the venting hob: it sits in front of the window rather than on a wall run. Cooking at a window rather than looking at a wall is a small thing that makes a noticeable difference to how the kitchen feels to use every day. The venting hob handles extraction without an overhead hood, which keeps the window view unobstructed and the cooking area feeling open.
The appliance specification reflects how seriously cooking is taken in this household. Three full-size ovens and a combination microwave oven is a configuration that requires careful planning: door heights, unit sizing and the visual rhythm of the tall bank all need to be resolved so the result looks intentional rather than overloaded. The Quooker tap and undermount sink complete the main working area, keeping the worktop line clean and consistent throughout.
-
The cabinetry is Häcker Top Soft Graphite, a matte handleless range with a strong finish that suits a kitchen of this scale. The worktops are Dekton, specified with drainer grooves cut directly into the surface alongside the sink. It is worth noting that drainer grooves in Dekton are technically possible and were chosen specifically by this client, though they are not something Samuel Neal specifies often: the practical performance of drainer grooves rarely matches the visual appeal, and most clients find a well-chosen sink and worktop combination works better without them.
The appliances in both the kitchen and dining space are Neff throughout, including the three full-size ovens, a combination microwave oven and the venting hob, and in the serving area glazed display units and two warming drawers. The Quooker tap sits at the undermount sink.
-
The serving area sits within the dining room rather than the kitchen, positioned to serve a dining table that seats twelve to fourteen people comfortably. It was designed to be related to the cooking and entertaining function of the kitchen without duplicating it: a sink and tap, glazed units for storing cups and glassware, two warming drawers for keeping food at temperature, and general storage for the things that a room used for serious entertaining needs close to hand.
The cabinetry is in keeping with the kitchen, so the two spaces read as part of the same design when the rooms are open to each other. The serving area is a practical addition and it makes a real difference to how a dinner for fourteen actually works! Less traffic through the kitchen, more function where it is needed and a dining room that supports entertaining properly rather than just a table.
-
Sam remained closely involved throughout, coordinating both the kitchen installation and the linked serving area. Keeping the two spaces consistent in finish and detail required the cabinetry, worktops and appliances to be specified and delivered as a coherent whole rather than as two separate jobs. As always, Sam oversaw the key stages to make sure the finished result reflected the design as agreed.

This is a kitchen built for a household that takes both cooking and entertaining seriously. The appliance specification gives it real capacity, the layout keeps the cooking in the kitchen and the entertaining in the linked dining room. It is a good example of how thinking beyond the kitchen itself, and designing the spaces around it with the same care, produces a home that simply functions better.
